“I just wanted to let you know that Joann Gaines mother Sis Wolfe passed away on Saturday night in LaGrange, TX. She was 94 years young. If anyone ever met her knew where Joann and her sisters got their personalities and wit from she was quite a gal. The services will be at 2:00 Tuesday in Nocona, TX at Woods Funeral Home. Please keep Joann and her family in your prayers.” (Vickie Childers)

“”The Saturn CCO-El Paso, TX, that was listed for 9-20 has had to be postponed due to the host being in the hospital with cancer and amputation was needed. Rescheduled date will be posted soon.” (Eve Du Mond)

“Lake Zurich IL—The Illinois Chili Year came to a soggy end Saturday, Sep 13, 2008. The all-day rain produced over 6" of rain throughout the Chicagoland region. Flooding in Paulus Park forced us to move to a shelter to cook and a building on the grounds for judging. A positive aspect of being in the cozy confines of the shelter was that the local cooks got to know us better and hopefully picked up some tips to make them more competitive in the future.

The weather forced the Parks & Recreation Dept of Lake Zurich to cancel all aspects of their festival except the chili cookoff. (I guess they knew our "the show must go on" attitude.) We also abandoned any attempt at showmanship. And, unfortunately, their usual big crowd was miniscule. But, we had fun.
