“Lynn Howell, Barry Poole, Jerry Hunt and many others did a great job putting on their Chili cookoff this past weekend in Lafayette, LA. The "Cajun" hospitality and Friday night crawdad feed was outstanding. This cookoff was also the "Louisiana - Texas Challenge" and Texas took the honors this year. Don Hoy led the 8 Texas cooks in the top ten winning the chili cookoff.” (Ken Rodd)

“Humble Noon Lions Club Cook off.

You never really think about how long you have cooked until you go back to find chili pins from a cook off. I remembered that we use to have - many years ago - the Lions Club cook offs - got out my ancient vest and oh my gosh there they were 5 pins attached starting with 1979 - first annual Humble Lions Club. Ralph Hay and I had the same thought - he found his also.

Had a great time - 16 CASI cooks and about 5 Lions members showed up. Beautiful day - cooked inside the arena area. Bill Simpson - the president of the Humble Noon Lions Club had such a great time visiting with the cooks and got to judge. I suggested he come out to the Pasadena Pod Cook off to see how things were run and he is now hooked on being a groupie judge. Look out Houston, he just might be there to judge.

Want to thank everyone that came out and helped - Stacey and Roy Davis did a tremendous in helping me in running the judging along with Earl Who and his rapid manual tallying. Matt Rumelhart and Ed Nesbitt were great table runners. The Lions members are ready for another one and hopefully this fall.

Winners:
1. Jim Birch (1st points for the year) 2. Sharon Dozier (come in sick and borrowing liquids) 3. Monette Birch 4. Ed Nesbitt 5. Stacey Davis 6. Sherrie Davis (Q) 7. Nancy Netardees (first points - forgot to mix spices at home - had to borrow measuring spoons) 8. Larry Netardees (first points) - they are fairly new cooks - thanks to Mayo Blair 9. Earl Who (practicing for Men's State) and 10. Roy Davis. Actually almost everyone was missing something that day. Thank goodness some bring their chili kit.” (Sherrie Davis)
