NEWS

“If you are bored with TV reruns, wondering what to do, needing to kill some time, try visiting the CASI web site to view the July issue of the Trails. See if your friends have qualified before you, plan your summer cooking schedule, and of course read all of the articles. Hope everyone enjoys the current issue. If not, send me some info to print.” Bucky Seelig

“Russ Harriman was admitted to the VA Hospital in Temple on Saturday with severe kidney issues. He will remain in the hospital until his doctors figure out what is causing other complications he’s experiencing. Russ is in good spirits and says hello to his chili friends. Please keep Russ in your thoughts and prayers. You may send him a note or card at: 306 N 4th Street, Temple, TX 76501.” Johnye Harriman

RESULTS and UPCOMINGS

“St. Charles IL—Rain may have soaked the ground last Saturday (June 13), but it couldn't dampen the spirits of the cooks at the Seventeenth Annual Chillini Chili Pod Cookoff. A steady rain throughout the morning got things pretty wet, so any attempt at showmanship was washed away. However, we could still cook chili and cook we did. We had a Juniors Cookoff which was won by Colin Metz, and Salsa won by Bill Thomas. Great Pepper Thomas also won the chili competition. Our charity, the Lazarus House homeless shelter did a great job publicising the cookoff and we expected a large turnout from the public. Unfortunately, that also fell victim to the weather.

EDITORIAL & LETTERS

I didn’t do much to stir up a variety of opinions with my first editorial. All of the responses I received ranged from ‘Well said’ to ‘Thanks, I needed that.’ I won’t bother to print them since they were all in agreement with me.

I’ve got a new topic bubbling away in the cauldron on the back porch, so we’ll see what we can stir up next week. I look forward to expressing my real opinion rather than the official line I was bound to in the past. Thanks for reading.
