NEWS

“This is to let you know that Pat Pilchiek has a new melanoma tumor that is behind the eye socket. The doctors that have been treating say that they cant do any more radiation on her. Now they are trying to get her into MD Anderson in Houston. We will let you know what they are going to do. Please pass this on to all our chili friends and keep her in your prayers.” Raymond Pilchiek

“I have had several people recently ask me about Piney Woods Pod's future. As some of ya'll may have heard we lost our Secretary and Treasurer with The move of Bob and Ava Horan to North Carolina. I am happy to inform everyone that PWP is not going away anytime soon . We had a short meeting after Space City Pod cookoff and laid out the plans for our Pod. Sherrie Davis has agreed to be the interim Sec and Treasurer for the rest of this year. We will have our elections later this month and will be going stong.

Thanks for all those who expressed concern. See ya down the trail.” Earl Who? Gorhum

RESULTS and UPCOMINGS

“We want to invite you to SOT's 29th Annual CCO this weekend in Jonestown. Come join us for some fun!

We’ve got a pizza party planned for Friday evening. The pizzas will be made right on site, so they’ll be fresh and hot right out of the oven. If you want to contribute to the feed, Hors devours or deserts would be welcomed. Tito's is providing the Vodka and Nigel and Lynn will either make you stomp your feet or get up and dance. John Caffey and his crew will feed us breakfast on Saturday and Sunday along with Mimosa's and Bloody Mary's. Don't forget something for the Pot Luck on Saturday. Bring some extra cash so you can win some extra cash. There will be a Cadillac Auction, and of course a silent auction. Try your hand at Beans and Salsa and you may leave with a wad of money. The park is located on Beautiful Lake Travis and we have Beautiful Stained Glass Texas trophies to add to your collection. Here is a link to the hotels nearby.

“One of the many things so great about CASI and the Chili World is how remarkable it is that a mixture of meat and gravy can bring so many people together and teach us all so much. Regardless of our background, experiences, motivations, shortcomings, etc, it is very rewarding to be involved in CASI Chili and once again thank you for the contribution you make to chili, charity, and fun.

This Saturday, Jun 13, 2009 in Topeka, KS is the 1st Annual Museum of the Kansas National Guard Chili Cook-Off. Many of you attended the Outlaw Cigar Company Cook-Off the first part of 2009, as well as the VFW Post 846, and you know what great events they turned out to be. Getting involved to support some of our brave men and women who are serving or have served our country is exciting - there is nothing like it. We owe so much to these folks that our debt will never fully be paid.

Don't let a short or long drive or any other excuse keep you from attending this National Guard Cook-Off. It will be a different experience than any other event you will attend, and we trust that as Gladiators we can count on your participation.

If you have never cooked CASI before - now is the time. If you used to cook CASI and haven't cooked for awhile - now is time to return. If you have been "boycotting" for some reason (?), now is the time to come out of hiding and cook. If you have a friend, family member, co-worker, whoever, now is the time for them to cook too. What a great opportunity to support the Kansas National Guard, earn CASI points, (we know what those are), learn more about chili, discover the missing technique or ingredient in you recipe, and just have fun!

DC "Big Dog" Hannah described this weekend's coming event earlier with me and I would like to share a little of what he had to say,

"Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting, Adjutant General of the The Kansas National Guard, is hosting a benefit motorcycle ride ("Dice Run") on Saturday, 13 Jun 09, to benefit the Museum of the Kansas National Guard. The start and finish point, and the location for a chili cook-off, will be the Museum of the Kansas National Guard, 6700 SW Topeka Blvd., Topeka KS (located at Forbes Field). The ride will return to the Museum, arriving around 5:00 PM. We expect 150-200 Riders and community participation..."

Like the Outlaw Cigar event, there will be a 20' X 40' tent provided on the property so you don't need to bring your canopy unless you want to. Turn-in is at 5pm. Entry fee is $20.00. Plan to make extra chili for tasting.

Benefits the Kansas National Guard Museum, so make checks Payable to the Museum of the Kansas National Guard

The site is located at 6700 SW Topeka Blvd, approximately 3 miles south of I-470.

We have all watched with great pride this season as Gladiators Jeff Stehney, Jim Howell, Jason Brinkman, Kevin Stovall, Margo Smith, Tammy Frye, and so many others have joined the list of consistent performers along with our more seasoned CHILI-HEADS. CONGRATULATIONS!

It is also very good to see Gladiators Sam Essner, Dixie and Junior Johnson, and others able to attend more Cook-Offs once again. As you know they have a wealth of CHILI knowledge and tips and more than a few of them just might be what you are looking for. We are glad they are here!

The list goes on and on of Gladiators that love CHILI, in fact we now have close to 75 members. Whether or not you were planning to attend the Kansas National Guard Cook-Off, please double check your calendar and make arrangements to attend. You will be better off for attending, and you will have a whole bunch of fun.
