“Carol Knight's father, W. L.(Pat)Winters,aka Dr. John of Showmanship fame with his Bottom of the Barrel Gang Dead Armadillo Chili, died on Sunday morning. The services will be on Thursday, May 27th, visitation at 5:00 PM and the service will be at 7:00 PM, Ben F. Brown Memorial Funeral Home, 707 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving, TX 75061. Burial will be on Friday May 28th, DFW National Cemetery at 10:00 AM Please keep Carol, Richard and their family in your prayers.” Doris Coats

“ST. CHARLES IL—Last weekend was a big chili weekend for Illinois with three cookoffs. Saturday we had our Men's and Women's State Championships, and on Sunday, the Eighteenth Chillini Pod Cookoff. The Men's and Women's State were held at Zylstra Harley-Davidson in St. Charles. The dealership was very cooperative in letting us invade their business, but wouldn't contribute a couple of bikes for our winners; we asked. The champinship cookoffs were coordinated by the Hot Chili Grammas, Gloria Molitor and Pam Ward, who did a great job making sure everyone had a good time. Wes Carlson was the Head Judge and got all the chilies judged very efficiently. Here's the list:

Sunday we moved to downtown St. Charles to the local VFW, the Pod Cookoff's home since 1996. While the guys relaxed, the ladies kept the pedal down, placing six of the seven women entered.
