Several years ago, a popular phrase was, ‘it takes a village…..’ That sentence could be completed with, ‘to have a successful cookoff.’ I want to sincerely thank the many who helped us have another very successful All American Cookoff; Becker Vineyards for their generosity, Pod On The Pedernales members for their planning and set-up work, the table monitors, tally crew, and workers in the judging area, the hard-working officers of Fredericksburg Habitat For Humanity, and the cooks who promoted chili and CASI as they visited with and entertained hundreds of visitors.
Habitat For Humanity sold hundreds of tasting kits and told tasters that it was their job to give their ballot (wine cork) to the cook with the best chili. It was fun to see people huddling together and excitedly discussing merits of the various chilies. The chili energy that was generated was a great promotion for CASI. We especially appreciate the generous cooks who made and served extra chili and enabled us to raise funds for Habitat.
