Weaning Wauwatosa

Wauwatosa WI—A new cookoff was born last Saturday (July 24) in Wauwatosa WI. Thus doubling Wisconsin's cookoff population. Five Illinois cooks traveled north to help with the delivery. To say, "it was raining" when we left home does not tell the story. The Chicago area got from 5½" to 7" of rain Friday night and Saturday morning. In fact, O'Hare Airport reported 0.95" of rain in fifteen minutes, between 6:45 and 7:00 am. That was the precise time we were driving past O'Hare. I only wish water came out of my shower that fast. When we got near Milwaukee, the rain stopped, the skies began to clear and it turned out to be a great day.

The baby came out healthy and the parents (North Avenue Neighborhood Alliance) are doing fine. It really was a great venue; they blocked-off three blocks of North Ave, bands were playing, and being the home of Miller Brewing, there was of course a beer wagon. It was a business neighborhood, so all sorts of products were available. I don't know why, but we set-up right in front of a pet store; one that specializes in reptiles. These people think it's cute to walk around with snakes wrapped around their necks. It's hard to stir your pot when you have to look over your shoulder to see what might be slithering towards you.

The event organizers, the local cooks, and the public all seemed very pleased with the way things turned-out, so I'm pretty sure a baby brother or sister will be on the way next summer. It was a lot of fun, so if you're in the area, plan to attend next year. The winners:
