RESULTS AND UPCOMINGS

DOWNERS GROVE IL—There aren't many cookoffs held at churches. However, two years ago St. marys Catholic Church in Downers Grove, at the suggestion of John Gastaldello, invited us to their church picnic. Since a church picnic is a family (parish) affair, I was leary of being the uninvited guest. But they welcomed us with open arms and we have become part of their annual event.
Last Sunday was a beautiful late summer day, although at 92° it was a little toasty. Last year, Pam Ward and Gloria Molitor got set up and then went to mass. It seemed that someone smiled on them as Pam was first and Gloria second. This year they did the same thing. I don't know what happened; maybe thay sat in separate pews, but Gloria failed to place while Pam once again won the cookoff. In any event, it's a superstition that can't hurt anyone.
Don and Suzy Weber, of North America, stopped by on their way through the area and helped with the judging. It had been awhile since they had had some real chili. It was good to see them as well.
Those of us in attendance want to thank John and the St. Marys parishoners for their hospitality. The winners:
