RESULTS AND UPCOMINGS

"Hot Time In The City CHICAGO IL—Sunday, Aug 8th the Windy City Chili Cookoff was held at the Retro on Roscoe street festival. Another rainy start to the day, but the clouds cleared and it turned-out to be a nice (if you like hot and humid) day. This was a combined CASI and ICS event, and a big day for Bert Centers. I found out Bert's ride to the cookoff bailed on him Saturday night so he wasn't going to go. Cheryl called him and told him if he would be ready at 8:00 am Sunday, we would pick him up. Not only did Bert win the CASI cookoff (he only needed one point), he won the ICS event as well. You can only imagine the tough time we had getting his head through the car door, a Suburban at that. This cookoff has always been an adventure for the senses; the vendors, the activity, and especially the people make it something to behold. The location is only a mile or so from Wrigley Field, so the post-game traffic from a Cubs' game adds to the adventure. Mike Usiak, with much help from wife, Nancy, runs the chili cookoff(s) part of the festival and makes sure we are always entertained. The winners:

CHILI

Showmanship is not contested at this cookoff; too much competition from the spectators." Bill Pierson
