RESULTS AND UPCOMINGS

"That's A Wrap. PALOS PARK IL—The 2010 Chili Year came to an end last Saturday (Sep 18) at the Palos Park Chili Cookoff. This is only the second year of CASI involvement in this combination CASI/ICS cookoff, but it is quickly becoming a local favorite. The cookoff is held in conjunction with a local fall festival which brings out many spectators. I really like this cookoff. The story of this year's cookoff was the weather. Our usually beautiful mid-September weather featured ominous skies and thunderstorms. The rain was not a problem, we've dealt with that several times this year, but the lightning was a different story. But the electrical charges stayed far enough away that we were not in danger. Of course, the person in the canopy next to me taking pictures made me jump each time her flash went off.

Due to the persistent rain, there was concern that the public would not show up, but those fears disappeared when I saw the line to buy tasting wristbands while turning-in my chili. The people showed-up. It was interesting to see people with and umbrella in one hand and a chili sample in the other.

Mary O'Connor and Nicole Marxman coordinate the cookoff and handle both the CASI system and ICS system very well. They are to be commended for the job they do, and we thank them. Bill Thomas is having a terrific year; fresh off his Wisconsin State Championship win last week, he followed it up with a victory on this day. Mike Stevens hasn't cooked much this year, but he still has that winning formula, taking first place in both ICS red and green chile divisions. The CASI chili winners:
