Jerry Yan and Rainie Yang for Fated To Love You Sequel

Nothing is confirmed but the management companies of both actors have been contacted by SETTV. “Fated to Love You” was a massive ratings success for the network back in 2008. They hope to recreate the same magic again with its sequel “醉後決定愛上你 (Drunken to Love You)” next year. As you might have heard already, SETTV has been in a slump (idol drama-wise) for most of this year ever since “Autumn’s Concerto” went off the air.

“Fated to Love You” director Chen Ming Zhang worked on many of the network’s biggest hits including “The Prince Who Turns into a Frog” and “My Lucky Star”. He moved on to direct more hit dramas for the mainland network HunanTV, but is now in hot water after the explosion accident on the set of his latest, “My Date with Spring”. Chen returned to Taiwan after the production team was disassembled. However, he has yet to answer any questions concerning the accident other than updating his blog. SETTV had wanted him to direct the sequel to "Fated" all along, but he originally turned it down due to scheduling conflicts. Now that “Spring” is on hold, he is rumored to be returning to SETTV to direct Drunken to Love You.

Many are awaiting Rainie Yang’s next drama after her big win at the Golden Bell last month. Her manager confirmed they have indeed received an offer but have yet to discuss any details. Jerry Yan’s manager said they are only in the early stages of contact. They haven't decided on whether they will accept the role.

Jerry Yan and Vanness Wu in Material Queen

A press event was held for Material Queen to officially introduce Van Ness Wu as its new leading man. Fellow F4 Jerry Yan made a surprise appearance after dropping out of the drama several days ago. It was impossible for him to keep a low-profile despite wearing casual clothes and a cap, but he did look like he wasn’t feeling very well. Producer Chen Yu Shan later explained that Jerry has been suffering from immune system problems, but the cause of his illness is still unknown.

Chen Yu Shan and director Chen Hui Ling got Van Ness Wu to sign on within 24 hours after they lost Jerry Yan. On the replacement casting, director Chen clarified, “I didn't invite (Van Ness Wu) to act, but rather to play the right role.” Van Ness Wu said he accepted the offer a day after getting her call on 27th, “I’ve had wanted to act (in this drama), but didn’t insist on it, maybe God heard my voice, it’s fate.” The press also asked if he is concerned about his height, since costar Lynn Xiong is 178 cm tall. Van Ness Wu responded, “Even Jay Chou can act alongside Lin Chi-ling, what should I be afraid of?”

Jerry Yan sleeps in Airport in Down With Love

For love, Jerry Yan actually spent a night sleeping over at the airport! CTV and GTV’s idol drama – [Down With Love]’s storyline will enter into a 4-angled love relationship in this week’s episode. Jerry’s character – Lawyer Xiang will finally learn that Ella’s role is not a lesbian and the joyous man will rush all the way to Hangzhou to express his love for Yang Guo (Ella’s character). However as the flight was fully booked, the handsome lawyer had no choice but to be placed on the flight’s wait list and to spend the night at the airport in meantime.

While filming the scene at the airport, the moment Jerry appeared, he attracted the attention of many tourists. Many of the female fans present immediately “earned” the chance to not only watch their idol up close but also to observe the filming! In order to film this scene, Jerry has to sleep on the chairs of the waiting area. While doing so, he accidentally hit his head, causing many female fans to feel heartaches.

With the telecast of [DWL], the clothes, accessories and bags used by Jerry and Ella in the serial have become conversational topics and interests of many netizens and fans. Last week (14 March), when Jerry gave Ella the “Sweets of Love” and with the scene of the couple enjoying the sweets merrily, the merchant received many calls the following day to enquire on these sweets. Ella and Jerry will be having a “bed scene” in CTV and GTV’s [Down With Love]. However both artistes were fully clothed throughout, as their bed scene is a very safe and wholesome one. Both of them are just lying on bed, under the blanket to chat. Although the scene seemed relaxing, to be able to film while lying down; it was not all a breeze as it was filmed during the hot summer and the room was packed with crew members. As the air-conditioner could not be turned on during filming, everyone was perspiring badly. Ella shared that Xiao Xiao Bin and Ji Xin Ling also popped in to play, hence, it was really messy and stuffy on the set, making the bed scene very stuffy.

In [DWL]’s debut episode last week, the scene whereby Ella and Xiao Xian knelt down before Jerry soared to its highest viewership rating. Tonight will be the telecast of [DWL]’s 2nd episode. In tonight’s story, Ella will once again have to kneel before Jerry as she broke his favourite sculpture – David! On the other hand, the earlier posters whereby the casts signed on the [DWL] posters for charity auction, the one whereby Ella drew a fringe for Jerry appeared to the fans’ hot favourite and was sold at the highest bid of $9300. Meanwhile the 2nd series of the online charity auction has started on 3 Feb. Two of Jerry’s costumes’ bids have risen to over $30,000 within an evening. The costumes of the artistes are currently available via the online auction. All proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross.

Taiwan Idol Jerry Yan waxed up in Thai museum

Taiwanese idol star Jerry Yan (言承旭) is so popular that even his body-double is in demand. Last month Jerry Yan’s wax figure went on display at the Madame Tussauds museum in Pattaya, Thailand. Unfortunately, organizers didn’t seem to have gotten permission from Yan for this mighty creation, as it doesn’t look much like the star himself. The wax figure should get a failing grade for its likeliness, because at first glance, it looks surprisingly similar to Japanese star Kusanagi Tsuyoshi.

Jerry Yan became famous all over Southeast Asia after starring in the idol drama “Meteor Garden” eight years ago. At last month’s grand opening of the Madame Tussauds museum in Pattaya, his wax figure stood along side other superstars including Teresa Teng (鄧麗君), Chow Yun-Fat (周潤發), Brad Pitt, David Beckham, and US president Barack Obama. However, the Jerry Yan figure looked only 30% like the original.

Jerry Yan’s wax figure is outfitted in tie and suit. At first glance, it looks somewhat like the star himself, but at a closer look, its facial features are completely incorrect. The forehead is too high; the shape of his face appears too bony; the most important feature, which is his eyes, completely lost his signature misty gaze. The only feature that has some resemblance is his signature wave, but overall, it looks awfully like Japanese star Kusanagi Tsuyoshi. In comparison, Jerry Yan’s wax figure in the Shanghai Madame Tussauds museum, in which he participated in its production, looks a lot more like the star himself.


Apparently, Jerry Yan is not aware that he has a new body-double in Thailand, adding to the fact that it doesn’t look very much like himself. Reporter contacted his manager Fenny yesterday and she answered frankly, “we didn’t hear any news before or seen it yet”, suggesting that they haven’t given permission to the museum. When asked if they will go oversea to defend their right of portrait, she said, “We will have a discussion first before taking any action.” The museum charges 400 baht (about NT$ 389) for locals and 600 baht for foreigners per visitor.

Since Jerry Yan is very busy as this year comes to an end, it is unlikely that he will have time to look after issues with his body-double in Thailand. In addition to his new compilation album, he will also promote the upcoming idol drama “Down with Love” in January. He is known to be very wary of people commenting that he is too thin. With this new wax figure not looking very humanly, Jerry Yan will probably be quite upset if he sees it himself.

Japanese magazine, CREA, has been in print for 20 years. In the newest volume published, it announced the winners of The Good Men In 21st Centary voted by its readers. It resulted that Fukuyama Masaharu, Takeshi Kaneshiro, and Kimura Takuya dominated the first 3 places, and Tamaki Hiroshi, who’s on the cover page, got the 4th place.

In the category of Asian Male Stars, Yan Cheng Xu won the voting with a group of Korean stars. He will attend the award ceremony in Japan this week.

Jerry Yan has filming drama and releasing album burning at both ends. With the immense amount of pressure, he started getting insomnia half a year ago. When Jerry gets insomnia, his mood is also affected. There was once when he didn’t get enough sleep, he kept NG-ing and he was so angry he hammered the table. Director Ke reminded him: “When you don’t smile, everyone feels pressure.” And Jerry took this good advice, saying: “If my laughter can make everyone else happy, then I should change my work methods.”
