RESULTS and UPCOMINGS

“This weekend is a very big week in Kansas Chili. The Lenexa Chili Challenge Midwest Regional Open Championship is being held in Lenexa, Kansas. As usual there will be a large open cook's party, celebration on Friday evening. This event draws from many states and according to host Jim Finlan this is a record year for participation. The event is being held in the streets of old town Lenexa, at 13420 Oak Street, Lenexa KS 66215. The cook-off benefits the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

CASI chili turn-in is noon on Saturday, October 17th. There is also Salsa, Wings, and Homestyle. Over 160 have already signed up, and this promises to be an event you will long remember.
I am told the Top 3 CASI chilis and the first place SHOW automatically qualify for the 2010 Terlingua International Chili Cook-off. The winner also receives $500 to be spent on travel money for 2010 TICC.

There are so many reasons to participate in this year's Chili Challenge. If you are considering coming in from out of town, let us know. There just may be someone already planning to drive right through your town on their way to the cook-off, and you might be able to bum a ride and some spices from them. For more details contact Jim Finlen, Lenexa Parks and Recreation, 913- 541-8592. With this many cooks do yourself a favor and contact Jim ahead of time. He'll help you to get a good spot.” Lee Kroencke

COOKOFF STORIES

“John and I will be headed to Crawford this weekend to celebrate the anniversary of meeting our Chili children, Ray Jay and Janna. They came and visited last year on Saturday, came back on Sunday and cooked, were 17 and 18th. Vowed this would never happen again and they started beating us everywhere. So they are coming there with a vengeance. Don't know about you all, but I plan to give them a good run for their money. On top of being good cooks, they are wonderful folks and we love them. So come on....... Donna and Dianne and all of us would love to see you.” Mama Sue
