NEWS

“Well, I survived the weeks of treatment for the gall bladder surgery. They had to starve me for almost 6 days before the surg and recovery was slow. No sooner than I was home for a few days, the hospital called me back in because the liver enzyme tests were not right. Further starvaton. This time I called in my Gastro Dr. that I had requested in the first place, and he had a stat MRI done.

Discharged me in spite of great political medical battles and scheduled an out patient surg for me. They found a constriction in the duct below the side duct where they cut out the gall bladder. They put a stent in the tube and told me to come back in for another look in two months.
In by 9 out by 12. I suddenly am gaining my strength back.
I lost from 224 to 190 lbs for my 6 ft 3 frame.

I will still be in Terlingua, to do the photography, but won't be taking the long hikes. Regards and thanks for the great thoughts.” (Donn Shands)

Putting on a true game face, Kaleb Jester, 10, Indianapolis, serves a sampling of his chili during the chili cook-off competition of the NUMA Arts Festival in Westfield Saturday, September 13, 2008. Jester made the chili from his own recipe with little help from his uncle. He titled his creation "Turtle-Power Chili" and completed the theme with his Mutant Ninja Turtles costume. “The morning began cool and overcast with the remnants of Ike lingering on the Hoosier horizon. By turn-in time at 12noon not only was the chili hot but so was the day – and muggy!

The Indiana State Chili Cook-off was held on Saturday 9/13 in Westfield, Indiana. This year it was held in conjunction with the NUMA Festival which included booths of local and national artisans, including painters, potters, sculptors and jewelers. Plus a car show and various entertainers.

The CCO charity was the Humane Society of Hamilton County. They brought out several pets in need of adoption.

Also in attendance were members of the HOT Pod. So any Texan’s wishing to reclaim the coveted bugle, the HOT Pod is one up on ya’ll. They found the road to Indiana.
