“Every once in awhile a chili cook off has great memories. The Kappa Beta Epsilon Sigma Alpha Club held a first time CCO at the Garland, Tx Elks on Saturday Oct 18. We had 18 cooks and a sponsor that was probably one of the best ever to hold a CCO. The team of 6 ladies of the Club arrived and set up the registration table, the judging tables and set up the complete program without any assist from the DAM pod leaders. They just asked the correct questions in the last few months and took charge. They handled the judging and awards in a very professional manor. I was just overwhelmed by the great job they did. The first 3 places in chili won a Coleman stove donated by Wal-mart. Note they plan on having another CCO next year. The charity for the CCO was the March of dimes. A total of $630 was raised. It did seem that a lot of chili cooks stayed home getting ready for the TICC 2008 event. Thanks to the chili cooks and the sponsor and the Elks lodge for a great CCO.

“To all of you who will be in Terlingua, on Tuesday Oct. 28th , Come somewhere around dark thirty and the weather permits, The Central Texas Pod and The Now Pod will hopefully have a little Surprise and Entertainment for you. IF you Know where to Find Mavis Nelson and Randy Duke then you will find us. You might need a chair and you might need a drink, but Donations will be taken for the Scholarship Fund as nothing is totally free. I wonʼt tell you what will be happening, but I think it will be fun, and if things go well we may have an encore on Wednesday night.
Also donʼt forget the Central Texas Pod Desert Breakfast On Wed. morning the 29th. Donations will once again be for the Scholarship Fund. We should have Pancakes, Bacon Sausage and Breakfast Beverages. If you are there then donʼt be shy. We will even let you become a Member of our Pods, with membership forms available. Hope to see you all There.” (Jim Trietsch)
“Reminder to all about the Tequila in Terlingua Society meeting on Thursday. Bring your favorite brand of Tequila, and a cigar for yourself and one for a friend! This year we have a great new sponsor, Tarantula Tequila, and we want to welcome them with a large turn out. What could be better than Tequila & chili?” (Roger Foltz)
“I just got off the phone with Ms. Bobbie Jones, the elementary school principal in Terlingua discussing the trick-or-treating for the kids. Since Tuesday night is our big Halloween party, it only seemed appropriate that we let the children come out then, hopefully some will get in costume for them.
She will be putting notices out around town at the stores and Post Office that we will be ready for the kids on Tuesday from 5-7 PM.
So I urge all the cooks to have their candy and treats ready at that time.
If anyone has excessive items from cooks goody bags (koozies, baseball caps, aprons, pens, pencils, pads of paper, etc), Rose City Chili Pod will also be getting goody bags ready for all the high school students, ROTC, band and dancers that come out Friday morning. Feel free to bring these items to Big John and Blu Daniels in the white bus and we'll get them packed and distributed.
See ya'll next week!” (Blu Monday-Daniels)
