NEWS

“Robin Goodman Fox's mother passed away early Saturday morning after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Not sure what the arrangements will be. We will try to keep you posted as they develop. Please keep Robin and her family in your thoughts and prayers.” (Ron Barnes)

Saturday was Moving Day for the Johnson City Library. With the help of donations from the Texas Men’s State Cookoff, We now have a beautiful, new 8,000 square foot library to replace the cramped building that had been on loan from the city. The entire community pitched in and helped move books and equipment from the old building to the new. The day was capped off by hot dogs chili for all and the showing of the Music Man.

Here’s a nice article from the Johnson City Record Courier, celebrating Susan’s TICC win:

RESULTS and UPCOMINGS

“November 8, 2008 – The morning was wet and squalls blew in from the harbor as members of the Mason Dixon Pod set up the tents and tables for the day’s cook-off. It was the 4th Annual Heat By the Harbor Cook-Off, held in conjunction with the 11th Annual Slaughter Across the Water, a Tug-of-War between the Maritime Republic of Eastport and the city of Annapolis, where competing teams from both sides vie for superiority across the waters of Annapolis Harbor. By mid-morning, the weather gave way to sun and calm breezes, and the crowds were there in full force, cheering for their teams and supporting the days’ charities, Reading is Fundamental, the Annapolis SPCA, and the Lighthouse Center. In the perfect fall weather of the afternoon, many spectators and participants enjoyed a variety of great chilis. When all was said and done, the cook-off made over fifteen hundred dollars for the charities, two cooks became qualified for Terlingua, and a couple of pirates stole the show.

A special thanks to all MDP members who made this CCO a success, in particular Margie Magill, who acted as the main contact and “go-to” person throughout the day, handling cook’s needs, judges, and anything else that came her way. Thanks Margie!
